“After 5” Business event showcasing the French Pacific Territories [fr]

The French New Zealand Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNZCCI) and the NZ Pacific Business Council (NZPBC) combined forces to showcase the French Pacific Territories - New Caledonia and French Polynesia – with the objective to inform New Zealand companies and encourage them to consider doing business with their French neighbours.

The “After 5” event, held on Wednesday 18th March 2015 at BECA’s office in Auckland, included a presentation by each of the following guest speakers, followed by a panel discussion.

The panel of speakers included :

- Ambassador to the Pacific: His Excellency Shane Jones
- Government of New Caledonia - Dr Yves Lafoy, Official Representative
- Business France - Francois Cotier, Country Director for New Zealand and Australia
- Fonterra - Sam Allnutt, Pacific Manager
- Sofrana – Benoit Marcenac, General Manager

The “After 5” event was chaired by Michael Greenslade, Pacific Trade Commissioner for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), responsible for managing NZTE’s strategic involvement in the Pacific. Mr Greenslade opened the discussion by introducing the importance of the French Pacific territories in the context of the larger Pacific trade portfolio for NZ.

Specific topics were covered by the guest speakers, such as the political, economic and investment outlook for the French Pacific territories, as well as first hand experiences of people doing business in these markets, notably in the food, retail, construction and shipping sectors.

Dr Yves Lafoy, designated by the Government of New Caledonia as the “Official representative of New Caledonia to New Zealand”, made a presentation entitled “New Caledonia: political and economic context”. His talk touched on the status of current business relations between New Caledonia and New Zealand and the implications with New Caledonia’s foreign policy.
