Border controls [fr]

Q : Border controls : President Hollande decided on November 14 to institute systematic controls at all French entry points immediately. What does that change, in concrete terms, for those who travel to France?

R : The conditions for entering French territory remain unchanged; they are the same as the conditions for entering the Schengen Area.

If you are a citizen of an EU Member State or of a Schengen Area State, you only need to carry a passport or valid ID card. If you are a citizen of a non-EU or non-Schengen Area country, you will need a passport, a visa if required, and the usual documents (certifying your financial capacities, the place of your stay, your return ticket and insurance).

There are no additional formalities. There is no need to change your travel plans.
All these documents may be requested upon arrival on French territory - even if you have entered the Schengen Area via a country other than France.

With the strengthening of security measures, it is recommended that you keep these documents with you, to be able to prove your identity and conditions for your stay in case of an identity check.
