French and New Caledonian artists at Auckland Arts Festival [fr]

French pyrotechnic performance artists “Groupe F”, and New Caledonian band “Kalaga’la” to feature at 2015 Auckland Arts Festival.

On March 5th 2015, French pyrotechnic company Groupe F returns to the Auckland Arts Festival to premiere “Skin of Fire”, an artistic combination of lights, fire, music, projections and pyrotechnics. This year collaborating with New Zealand performers, musicians and technicians, Groupe F will deliver performances of “Skin of Fire” over three nights at the Auckland Domain.


Groupe F’s involvement with the Auckland Arts Festival is longstanding. At last year’s Festival they delivered “one of the most spectacular and dazzling outdoor communal celebrations” and in 2007 their Festival performance was watched by a record 170,000 people.

A French company that has mastered the artistry of pyrotechnics, Groupe F is internationally recognized for their impressive performances.

New Caledonian band Kalaga’la will perform during the Auckland Arts Festival with members Patrice Kaïkilekofe, Auto Lami and Tyssia bringing their interpretation of the music of the Pacific to New Zealand audiences. Founded in 1999 near Noumea, the three musicians of Wallisian and Futunian heritage produce music which incorporates elements from New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna, as well as reflecting Polynesian and Melanesian influences.

Kalaga’la will play on 6th of March in the build up to Groupe F’s Skin of Fire show, in addition to two performances at the Festival Garden.


The Delegation of New Caledonia in New Zealand, the Government of New Caledonia and POEMART (Export Centre of the Music and Arts of New Caledonia) are proud to support the participation of Kalaga’la in the 2015 Auckland Arts Festival.

After a world premiere at the Avignon Festival in July 2014, Samoan-New Zealand choreographer, Lemi Ponifasio will debut his internationally acclaimed performance “I AM” in New Zealand. I AM is co-produced by 5 internationals festivals including the Auckland Arts Festival and Festival d’Avignon.
