Inauguration of the "Espace culturel et éducatif de Nouvelle-Calédonie" [fr]

On Friday the 13th of November at 6.30pm, Mr Yves Lafoy, the Official representative of New Caledonia to New Zealand and Mrs Isabelle Poff-Pencole, President of the Alliance française de Palmerston North will inaugurate the “Espace culturel et éducatif de Nouvelle-Calédonie” (Cultural and Education Corner of New Caledonia) at the Alliance Française de Palmerston North.

JPEGFrom this date, the Alliance Française will boast a unique and quality collection of art books, comic books, novels as well as CDs and DVDs, on the theme of New Caledonia.

The purpose of the creation of the “Espace culturel et éducatif de Nouvelle-Calédonie” is to:

  • develop the relationship between New Caledonia and the Alliance Française de Palmerston North,
  • promote the Kanak culture and identity,
  • promote Francophonie in New Zealand.

The Mayor of Palmerston North or his representative, representatives of Massey University, the Alliance française committee, as well as teachers, members and students of the Palmerston North Alliance will also be present at the inauguration ceremony.

On this occasion, the Official representative of New Caledonia to New Zealand will also announce the creation of a language assistant post at the Alliance Française de Palmerston North in the beginning of 2016. This project was jointly undertaken by the Alliance Française de Palmerston North the New Caledonian Department of Youth and Sports (DJS) and the Regional Cooperation and External Relations Department of the New Caledonian government.

Financed by the Delegation of New Caledonia in New Zealand, the creation of the “Espace culturel et éducatif de Nouvelle-Calédonie ” is the response to a strong demand from the 700 members and 200 students of the Alliance Française de Palmerston North.
