Work permit for French Polynesia

All persons travelling to French Polynesia for business reasons must contact the SEFI in order to receive a permit.

EMPLOYMENT OF FOREIGN WORKERS IN FRENCH POLYNESIA

1 – Statutory Texts :

Ruling n°2001-164 APF as of September 11, 2001 related to the foreign employment and labour force laws in force in French Polynesia.

Decree n°1286 CM as of October 4, 2001.

Decree n°102 CM as of January 29, 2007.

2 - Principle :

Any person not of French nationality, including nationals from any European Community member country, who wish to get a paid job in French Polynesia, must be granted a work permit which is issued by :

- the Employment, Training and Professional Integration Department (SEFI) for a working period which does not exceed 15 days ;

- the Department in charge of Employment if the mission period exceeds 15 days. In this case, the work permit will be issued for a maximum 6 months period. No renewal is allowed.

3 – Documents to be submitted for any work permit application if the mission period exceeds 15 days :

A certificate stating :

-  the foreign worker’s identity, nationality and address ;
-  name and address of the employer established outside French Polynesia ;
-  as appropriate, name and address of the French Polynesian host company ;
-  the reasons for, nature of, and duration of the foreign worker’s temporary mission ;
-  the commitment made by the foreign worker stating that he remains paid by the overseas-based employer ;
-  two recent ID photos of the foreign national ;
-  photocopy of the foreign national’s passport.

If and when the foreign worker is assigned a mission in a host company in French Polynesia, this certificate may be prepared by that company.

If a work permit is granted, an employment card is made available to the applicant at the Employment, Training and Professional Integration Department.

Application processing time : between 1 and 2 months ; the employer will be advised in writing of the decision made at the end of this period.

4 - Documents to be submitted for any work permit application if the mission period does not exceed 15 days :

The employer shall provide the SEFI with : 

-  the foreign worker’s identity, nationality and address ;
-  name and address of the employer established outside French Polynesia ;
-  as appropriate, name and address of the French Polynesian host company ;
-  the reasons for, nature of, and duration of the foreign worker’s temporary mission ;
-  the commitment made by the foreign worker stating that he remains paid by the overseas-based employer ;
-  two recent ID photos of the foreign national ;
-  photocopy of the foreign national’s passport.

This application, once it has been signed by the appropriate authority, stands as a work permit. No employment card will be issued.

If and when the foreign worker is assigned a mission in a host company in French Polynesia, this certificate may be prepared by that company.

5 – Translation

All the documents and certificates issued in a foreign language must be submitted to the administration along with a translation of these documents and certificates into French made at the applicant’s expense.

7 – Copy of the application to be sent to Brasserie de Tahiti

The supplier shall deliver a copy of the file to the Industrial and Technical department of BRASSERIE DE TAHITI.
